JAMIE LEE OUT and ABOUT

This past weekend, I attended a few Pride events. Up first on Saturday was Pride Picnic in the Park held at Brockton Oval. A very pleasant afternoon and meeting old and new friends was fun. My colleagues on the Pride board worked hard on the event and I wish to thank them publicly for being great hosts and working overtime to ensure a successful afternoon. Thanks John, Alex, Monika, Leith, Dean, Ken, Ray, Tim, Bernard and the incredible Volunteers who assisted.

Enjoyed meeting Arthur Griffiths the Vancouver-West End candidate for the BC Liberals in the upcoming provincial election. Arthur was being escorted around by the incredibly fabulous entertainer and former Empress Joan-E. Arthur seems like a very sincere man and I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with him privately.

On Sunday, I attended the 31st Greater Vancouver Native Cultural Society annual Passing of a Legacy held at the infamous Penthouse Nightclub. Having the opportunity to perform on their historic stage was incredible. I toured and sat in the upstairs dressing rooms and soaked in the dynamic of how many incredible entertainers over the decades sat in the same place getting ready for their performances. I truly was overcome with emotion and this memory I will cherish forever. Thank you to the Philliponi family for welcoming this event.

During the evening, a close friend of mine who belongs to the Hospital Employees Union began chastising me over my decision to seek an NPA nomination for Park board. Of course it is his right to express himself and I'm glad he did so because his viewpoint allows me an opportunity to also express myself.

As many of my friends and supporters know, my values and political principles will never falter or change. They are inherent and as an individual who has long fought for equality and justice, my firmly-held viewpoints are sacred and define me as a person. Belonging to the NPA doesn't alter these values and moreover, they wouldn't change even if I happened to belong to another party.

I am quite comfortable working within and alongside the NPA and many of its candidates and elected representatives to better this City. Good governance should be a hallmark of any municipal party because this is what the citizens want and as community leaders we should always be responsive and responsible to the voters.

Just a reminder of upcoming Pride events that I am participating in this week. On Thursday July 31 the historic documentary, Hookers on Davie will be showing at the Vancity Theatre located at 1181 Seymour. Showtime is at 9:30pm. Please consider joining me.

On July 31 I will be emceeing the Aging with Pride event at the 411Seniors Centre. Please attend this important event. The afternoon runs from 1:00pm until 3:30pm
