VANCOUVER-CENTRE NDP HAS A NEW CANDIDATE

VANCOUVER-CENTRE N.D.P. HAS A NEW CANDIDATE

Oldtown News is breaking the story that Michael Byers, the Canadian Research Chair in International Law and Politics, is set to announce tomorrow morning at English Bay his intention to seek the federal Vancouver-Centre riding for the NDP.

Professor Byers teaches at UBC and has an impressive resume. According to a number of NDP Van-Centre members who I've spoken with, Mr Byers provides them the best opportunity yet to win the seat Liberal Dr Hedy Fry has held since 1993.

As an academic, Dr Byers obviously is a smart and accomplished man, but whether he is a good fit for this riding, which has a sizable gay population, will be interesting to watch.

Dr Fry has immense popularity in the gay community and Green deputy leader Adriane Carr has been working the gay community as well. Ms Carr is running in Van-Centre and many pundits believe Ms Carr to be running second to Ms Fry.

The NDP candidate for this riding, Randall Garrison, who stepped aside last week is an out gay male and NDP insiders inform Oldtown News that Mr Garrison was having a tough go trying to lure Hedy Fry's supporters.

Mr Byers will find it even more challenging than Mr Garrison since he is without any significant ties to the GLBT community.

Let the race begin.

Breaking news always involves a story that is high profile. The last two stories you claim to have broken involved this riding. What is next? Hedy Fry has a hangnail?
No one takes you seriously anymore.

Who are the pundits who think Carr is running second? Besides yourself, that is.

Is Carr making climate change and carbon taxes her main issue, or is she tilting towards more people-oriented concerns in this downtown riding?

Budd,

I'm not the candidate. Why don't you ask Ms Carr for specifics on her platform?

In terms of pundits, a number of these are Green pundits and NDP pundits. They spoke with me on condition of anonymity for obvious reasons. I don't wish to break their confidentiality and I won't.

Yes I'm a pundit and yes you are correct Mr Campbell that I think Ms Carr is running second to Dr Fry.

To indicate that the GP candidate has risen above both the CPC and NDP candidates in a riding in which they received 4 digits, is absurd.

Pure Fantasy. There are many positions that can be taken. Growth in popularity etc. but the comments here are laughable.

The fact is, you provide no other "pundits" that back up your unsupported comments.

A comment that not even you can support with facts.

"They spoke with me on condition of anonymity for obvious reasons."

The "obvious reason" is that these pundits either do not exist or they are speaking on condition of anonymity because there are no polls that show Adrienne Carr in second place.

Just a reminder.... here were the results, and obviously those 2nd place "anonymous polls" were fabrications...

Vancouver-Centre 2008 Federal General 10354 18.3% 4th

Well if they were fabrications so were the NDP who said Mr Byers was running a close second to Ms Fry. He finished 3rd behind a Conservative and barely ahead of Ms Carr.
