JOHN BOYCHUK ANNOUNCES COUNCIL RUN

Today, President John Boychuk announced on the steps of City Hall that he plans to seek a Council seat in the November 15 municipal election.

Mr Boychuk announced that although he has worked with both Vision and the NPA, he feels more comfortable running as an Independent. During his announcement he articulated issues such as homelessness, transit and tackling the City's drug issues as key planks in his campaign.

Mr Boychuk is completing a three year term as President of Pride and will not be seeking re-election.

At noon, John and I attended a Community leaders lunch with Laura McDiarmid, Jim Deva, Alan Herbert and Marc Schaper. Discussion revolved around succession plans at Pride and our collective long-term vision for the Vancouver Pride Society and Pride festival.

John Boychuk will soon have his political website up and I encourage readers to access it.

I will be off this weekend giving a presentation in Victoria at the Women's History Project, Raising the Bar conference. I'll be giving a talk with Dr Becki Ross and Rachel Sullivan on the work we are doing around the draconian West End injunction of 1984.

I will return late Saturday evening to attend the annual Mr and Ms Gay Vancouver Pageant at the Odyssey Nightclub.

My posts will be non-existent from tonite until Monday so I hope everyone has a great weekend.
