JIM GREEN AMERICAN STYLE GUTTER POLITICS
Hi Folks!
As you know there are two competing visions for the Downtown Eastside. There is the New Sustainable Politics put forward by myself in which I want to inject Heart back into our community. There is the Old Unsustainable one put forward by Vision and Jim Green who would rather inject Heroin into our community.
Whether you and I like it or not, American style politics has come to Vancouver in the form of one nasty bully.
Because Jim Green has certain friends in the media who are reporting on his Mayoral run, a select number of media chose to push aside balanced reporting in an effort to spin their tales which shows Mr Green somewhat favourably.
For the record, yesterday I held a press conference to introduce my candidacy for City Councillor. I used City Hall as the backdrop for my announcement.
At my announcement, after laying out the Solutions to the Problems permeating my community, I stated I had documents which involved the former head of the Downtown Eastside Residents Association. I further went on to say that there has been a dark dirty secret of the Downtown Eastside for many many years. Everyone talks about this secret yet nothing has ever been done about it. People in high places know of this matter yet have been silent surrounding it.
Until just a few days ago, I could add my name to those who didn't speak much about it. That is not to say I haven't spoken up. In fact I have. I even went to one former City Councillor now MP and informed this individual of the problem. Another individual alleges they went to another high ranking official, without success. Was there a Cover-Up? In my opinion there was.
I am in possession of information which once again has brought this matter to light. I received this information just a few days ago.
Certain media yesterday wanted me to turn over this information to them. I refused to do so until my legal counsel returns from Montreal next week. Moreover, I have not gone to the police with the information since the Chair of the Police is now Senator Larry Campbell, who just happens to be a Big Fan, Booster and Friend of Jim Green. I believe he will say or do anything to defend his friend.
In fact, yesterday, he once again rose to Mr. Green's defence. This shows Mr Campbell not to be very responsible.
As a result of my press conference, Jim Green and Larry Campbell have resorted to American Gutter style politics. Mr Green went so far to the extreme, stating, that my concerns for the welfare of my community is some part of a grand Conspiracy cooked up between the NPA and myself. This is absolute hogwash and Mr Green should be ashamed. Further Larry Campbell called me a troubled individual. Perhaps Larry Campbell is right. I am troubled by the thought of another three years of the Vision gang leading our City.
Because, of these unfounded, unsubstantiated allegations of some great Conspiracy, it is important that no innocent parties be tarred and feathered by the ilk of these boorish brutes.
Therefore I am removing from my website http://www.jamieleehamilton.com photos of a few friends of mine taken at my 50th birthday party. These friends happen to be NPA candidates Valerie Jenkinson and Park Commissioner Suzanne Anton. As well I had a few photos of City Councillor Peter Ladner and myself at the Pride Parade and launch of Pride at City Hall on my site.
Finally, I just want to say this to Jim Green. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STOP FIGHTING AGAINST PEOPLE and START FIGHTING FOR THEM.

Congratulations Jamie-Lee! I think three quarters of the city was preparted to sleep thru the election until you hit the stage! I may not agree with a lot of what you say, or with some of your tactics. but I've gotta hand it to you for having the guys to take a stand, and for making life interesting. Who sez we're a No-Fun City! U Go Gurl!

Jamie, how can you call yourself an activist for social justice and a speaker for those who are without when you back a candidate for Major who wants to scale back on the Woodwards housing. Housing that would put a roof over the heads of the people you claim you're championing for.
Not to mention your raging support for Lorne Mayencourt, the very man that wants to fine and jail street people, (including street workers) for asking for change to eat/survive?

Dear Jamie Lee, I am curious (no, not "curious" :p ) about a few things I was hoping you could clear up - so that I and others might make better informed decisions come voting day.
Since you have brought up the issue of misappropriation of funds - I was wondering if you could address the allegations of "financial mismangement" regarding receipt of government money and non-delivery of service during your tenure as Director of Grandma's House.
Secondly, and this is strictly gossip (of course, that seems appropriate enough given the content of your blog) - but I've heard rumours that your "day job" professional services are provided under the table, for cash and without charging appropriate sales/service taxes. Presumably by that same token you don't declare your full income or pay your share of income tax. How then, should we as taxpayers expect you as a councillor to treat our hard earned money - given you wouldn't fully appreciate paying taxes in the first place?

What the Qeen of Hearts does in her private bedroom is protected by law. I refer you to the policy of which the State has no Buiness in the Bedrooms of the Nation.
Thanks for bringing up Grandma's House. As like other non-profits, there should always be transparency and accountability built into these programs. Audits in my opinion should happen always.
The audit of Grandma's House had this finding. According to the terms and agreement of the contract, all funded services were met to the satisfaction of the funder.

Jamie Lee, I think you missed the thrust of my question. I was not questioning what you did in the privacy of your bedroom or with whom - but rather your provision of services for money and whether or not you declare and pay tax on your income.

OK regarding your query of Taxation of those working in the Skin Trades.
Everyone pays taxes in life including me. Do I get to claim EI or Workman's Compensation if I'm injured on my job like every other citizen and the the answer to that is No. Is that Fair or Just Peter O? Because trust me I have been injured on the job as most who work in the skin trades have.
But again thanks for raising these matters and of course, hopefully we can engage on these issues on the campaign trail.

Jamie Lee, Your excuse for not your paying share of income tax does not hold water. In fairness, most self - employed people (myself included) do not get EI or WCB benefits unless we choose to pay into it as optional private coverage. While I appreciate the health risks of your profession - other self employed, from carpenters to web designers have risks from repetitive strain injuries to serious accidents. I'm not picking on you or your profession - but I do feel if you are going to sling mud about missapropriation of funds - you should come clean about your own tax evasion.

Self-Employed people can pay into WCB or EI. The difference between you and those working in the Skin Trades is those working in the Skin Trades can't.
How that equals Tax Evasion is illogical thinking. However if you think it is please take it to the media or file an official complaint.
You are entitled to do that.

Further to your assertions about your profession, taxes and an ineligablilty for benefits: actually Skin Trade workers CAN pay into EI and WCB - in fact escorts have their very own category: Classification Unit (CU) 761021: Massage Parlour, Steam Bath, or Escort Services (http://www.worksafebc.com).
But really, my original question had nothing to do with either EI or WCB, but whether or not you declared your income in full and paid your share of income tax - and if not, how that qualifies you as a councillor to spend taxpayer's money.

I also heard that you were telling people you were a lawyer when you were trying to open up a bathhouse where M2M is now located? Is that true?
Then when your own 'group' ran out of 'funding' for the project and were also at odds with the landlord of the building, you all mysteriously 'vanished' from the debt owing.
You were also not too happy when the owners of F212 took over the project and turned it into M2M.
This came to light on the day when Club Vancouver burned down because another business tenant started a fire in her suite/office.
And by coincidence you got shut down at your location on Davie Street.
Was it all too coincidental because it happened on the same day and you thought the f212/m2m owners had something to do with all this?
Or was it because of your own mismanagement that your previous bathhouse location never came to light.?

Thank You again for raising interesting debate on the Sex Trade front.
Peter O- I don't advocate the licensing system which is currently in place in Vancouver because it doesn't allow Independent Escorts to work Independently at least under the current Zoning laws. The licensing is based on Exploitation and as a Femminist I don't support Exploitation of any worker.
Moreover, contrary to your opinion there is Documentation from WCB that women harmed at the hands of a bad date (trick) cannot collect on a WCB claim. Further, noone has ever been able to collect EI benefits for having worked in the Skin Trades. If you have concrete evidence otherwise please could you forward that information on to me. Of course I expect you to cite facts.
In regards to the Steambath provision you refer to, again according to City of Vancouver regulations Steam Bath licenses can only be issued to those businesses where it is a same sex clientle and only same sex employees. For instance a Female cannot be legally allowed to work in a steambath. And if there was a Female Steambath, a Male would not be allowed to work in a Women's Steambath. You can speak to Paul Teichroeb Chief of Licensing at the City of Vancouver about this.
