BREAKING of the BANNOCK

On Saturday October, 15, 2005, I attended an event put on by the Greater Vancouver Native Cultural Society (the GVNCS). It is a yearly celebration called Breaking of the Bannock.

The GVNCS invites other organizations with-in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community to send their representatives and the sharing and breaking of the bannock symbolizes friendship, respect, kindness, tolerance and equality. It is a way of reaching out to work with other community groups.

Chief Al Huston of the GVNCS did a great job hosting the night along with Princess of the GVNCS, Jessica. The newly elected Ms Gay Vancouver, Paige Turner, was as usual, a shining example of what a hard worker does. The Emperor and Empress of Surrey, BC, Robert and Rose came into Vancouver for the celebration, having brought with them, a dear friend of mine, the fabulous Amanda Luv. Having launched her political campaign, The Queen (of Hearts), Jamie Lee Hamilton was also present, introduced and brought on stage to participate.

A truly rewarding evening shared by many. Perhaps our local politicians could learn from this beautiful cultural event.

Cheers
