IN HARMS WAY-PART 8

The post below appeared in the Edmonton Sun. The Highway of Tears is renowned for female sex trade workers disappearing. While it is terrific that the NDP caucus member is calling for action, one wonders why the sudden interest by the NDP? It should be noted that the NDP did nothing while in government as all the DTES women went missing and were murdered--Jamie Lee

Press Release from Victoria

VICTORIA -- The NDP critic for the Public Safety and Solicitor General Ministry called on the B.C. government yesterday to take steps to address the safety concerns along Highway 16 - the so-called Highway of Tears.

Jagrup Brar made the call in the aftermath of the death of another female, whose body was found last week beside the highway.

"All citizens are very concerned about what is happening along Highway 16," Brar, the MLA from Surrey-Panorama Ridge, said.

"I'd like to know specifically what the Campbell government is doing to improve safety along Highway 16."

At least eight women have been reported missing in the Prince George area since 1990, with the most recent incident on Feb. 9.
