BEN WEST ASSUMES VANCOUVER GREEN CHAIR

Ben West, who recently ran for the BC Green party leadership has become the new Vancouver Green Party Chair after the sudden resignation of Stuart MacKinnon.

Sources confirm that at the Green board meeting held last night, two former Chairs of the Green party, Korky Day and Steve Kisby came out of hibernation and were in attendance.

Strategy ensued regarding preparation for the upcoming fall municipal election and the need to organize over the summer. Consensus apparently was reached that the Greens need to campaign from a strength-based position and while open to the possibility of an alliance with COPE, executives articulated that the Green party needs to be a full and equal partner in any alliance.

COPE elects its new executive on June 1,2008 and apparently there is an openness to working with the Greens. How this working relationship will develop will be at least according to the Greens up to their members. Rumours abound that Tim Louis who remains influential with the COPE members would also like to see strong unity between COPE and the Vancouver Green party.

The new Green website soon will be up www.vangreens.org so check it out.
