MAYOR SULLIVAN'S QUESTIONABLE POLITICKING

Famed Director of Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee, is visiting Vancouver this week and Mayor Sullivan sensing an opportunity invited Mr. Lee to a Mayoral reception being held in his honour.

Unfortunately, the Mayor has turned what should have been a non-partisan Civic reception for Mr. Lee into one of his Mayoral candidate for nomination coffee parties.

This coffee party is being held at the swanky home of the Segal family, who are generous supporters of Sam Sullivan. My readers may recall the Segal family previously hosted a $5,000.00 per person partisan fundraiser at their Southwest Marine Drive home for Mayor Sullivan's re-election bid .

With the Segal's hosting Ang Lee on behalf of the Mayor, this takes the game of politics to a new level.

This situation creates the impression that Mayor Sullivan is mis-using his public office in an attempt to gain political advantage in the midst of a hotly contested nomination battle.

Mayoral receptions held for visiting dignitaries or film stars, should be carried out in a non-political and non-partisan way.

If Mayoral parties or receptions are held, other elected officials should be invited, including opposition members of Council.

The optics of this reception and how it is being organized, leave citizens wondering if Mr. Ang Lee has been duped by our Mayor?

Citizens have a right to know and organizers for this reception need to come clean on whether Mr. Ang Lee was informed prior to his agreeing to attend the reception that it was in fact, a reception for the Mayor's re-election bid?

Hopefully the Mayor can clear up what is turning out to be, at least in the minds of the public, questionable politicking and a serious lapse of judgement on the part of the Mayor.
