VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - An advocate for better housing for sex trade workers says social housing activists shouldn't blame City Hall for Vancouver's homelessness issue.

Jamie Lee Hamilton says while NPA Councillors voted down a moratorium last week on the closure of single room accomodations on the downtown eastside, many of the rooming houses are virtually uninhabitable anyway, "Many of these places cannot get insurance because of the deteriorating conditions of their spaces and I don't think putting people in firetraps or unhealthy conditions is acceptable either."
Hamilton calls this week's protest squat at the former Northstar Hotel 'misguided.' She's calling on the Mayor to convene a summit on chronic homelessness to come up with more human solutions to the problem.
